In which I distract you from my slackerhood with Interspecies Love.

I seem to have come down with a moderate case of false-startitis.

The symptoms?
  1. Remember how WAY back when, I asked for color advice for a Two-Tone Shrug for my sister? Yeah. I chose a nice dark red, then got about five rows into it before i decided I was totally bored. She'll be getting a cuter than cute hat instead.

  2. I got most of the way through a super thick, squishy log cabin sock in Lamb's Pride Bulky before I remembered Katie's dad can't wear wool. Where is my brain?

  3. I was going to design the world's loveliest cabled scarf for my Dad, but I think I started too late. I gave it several tries, but nothing looked the way I wanted it to. Given more time I'm sure I could pull it off, but for now he'll be getting a seed stitch scarf instead. Classy and simple. (And unphotographed. Sorry.)

The cause? It pains me to say it, but all that knitting mojo I'd accumulated just drained out of me in an instant: I left myself logged into flickr on Katie's computer, and The Super Surprise Xmas Thing is a Surprise no more. I almost cried. I hardly have the heart to finish seaming. But it will still be beautiful and appreciated and loved... just not a surprise. Damn it.

In the meantime, there's one thing I have managed to commit to: Yes, predictably enough, our "foster cat" pretty quickly became our "oh my goodness, you're a kitty! yes you are! my fuzzy little dumpling cat...". He'll be staying around.

Not exaggerating. Best Cat Ever.

My one hesitation was that he was completely freaked out (and I have the claw marks to prove it) by Maya's incessant, pushy brand of affection. But this is what I found when I came downstairs this morning. Notwithstanding that someone isn't actually supposed to be on the couch at all, this is serious progress -- he'll be sleeping on her head before long.

so cute. i love greylings. =]

my cat and dog would have you believe they don't get along. the dog always wants to play with the cat and the cat hisses and swats at the dog. all day.

until around 2 am every night when the cat sneaks into the bedroom, jumps onto the bed, and arranges himself cuddled up to the dog. he sleeps there until just a half hour or so before the husband gets up. he doesn't want to be caught. ;]

Those two are quite a pair! And I agree that there is nothing cuter than a tiny gray pal...and I can't believe you're making the Inga hat, what a fantastic gift!!

The hat will be beautiful!! The scarf classy...the sock will be worn by someone else, after the holidays! Now Katie can wear it to all the holiday parties and show it off!! :)

I knew it!!! I knew Helo would find a home with you two!! yippy skippy!!! Great picture!!! Dang tho, I almost had Mr. NK convinced to adopt him...almost. :o

Sorry the surprise got ruined. But only partially, right? She doesn't get to touch it or try in on...

I thought you would adopt Helo! I'm glad to see he has a great home. It's been fun watching my new kitten warm up to my older cat :)

So sorry the surprise was ruined! I have to knit publicly through Christmas since most of my stuff needs to be tryed on as I knit it. I really like your UA, though!!

Sweet kitty. Nice kitty. No claws kitty.

Aaaahhh, rats - sorry your surprise was blown. That is definitely a bummer. But it looks absolutely marvelous and even if it isn't a surprise anymore, she now has the anticipation factor ("are we there yet? are we there yet? are we there yet?")

I definitely understand the complications of knitting for someone so close - I live upstairs from my mother and we are constantly popping in and out of each other's apartments. I can only knit for her first thing in the morning or late at night. One of my friends has it even worse - she locks herself into the bathroom and knits a few rows before each daily shower!

As for Mr. Cat - Yes, indeedy, back when I worked at the animal shelter we had another name for people who fostered animals-Adopters. It's a good thing - congrats!

Keep knitting it! Consider the surprise if getting it done in time. It looks so great and she will love the UA, finish it, surprise or no, it is a special gift, S!

I totally get the slackerhood, when one project goes wrong, somehow the knitting urge flies away for me.
It's too bad the surpise got ruined, but hey, what a gorgeous sweater!

Bummer that the sweater won't be a surprise, but I'm sure it will still be much appreciated!

I definitely couldn't have given up the kitty either. :-)

The sweater is so gorgeous so far. Even though it wont be a surprise it will still be well loved for sure!

I love the picture of the animals together. The kitty is darling, I couldn't give him up either :)

A friend of mine would call that failing fostering 101. That's a tough class, you know! I think we need to get a dog, just so I can capture adorable photos of all the animals snuggling, cute!

I've just re-discovered your blog! I love your knits... and the photos are fantastic. I particularly like the canine aspect of this post... I'm pretty sure our dogs are siblings separated at birth. :D

Somewhat of a shock to see my wee pup on someone else's blog!
